The Elvis Dead is the brainchild of Black Country comedian, horror fan, and all round tall person Rob Kemp. The show sees the cult classic horror movie Evil Dead 2 being reinterpreted through the songs of Elvis.
Rob performed the show for the first time to a sold out crowd at the Leicester Comedy Festival, and immediately got invited back to second chance Sunday, where he had another full house. In fact, he was so invested in his performance that he managed to break his hand during it, but nevertheless, carried on until the end, like the showman he apparently now is.
It was so well received that it won ‘Best Musical/Improv show’ and ‘Best Show’ at the festival’s awards ceremony on the 3rd of April.
This is an achievement matched in its grandiosity only by the humility of the Elvis Dead’s creator. Indeed, on the strength of those first performances Rob was offered a full run at the Edinburgh Festival by champion of the alternative Bob Slayer, and is also setting out across the country on a string of dates including FUNNY THINGS on Tuesday 31st October at Arena Theatre.
His mission is to bring the rest of the UK the joy that can only be achieved through putting your favourite film in a blender with the King.
Rob has a proper job, gigs constantly, and along with collaborator Dave Pitt runs the hugely enjoyable Anarchy comedy club in Willenhall and puts out the ‘Left of the Podium’ youtube show.
